in Asia,Thailand

phuket beachPhuket is Thailand’s tourist beach, crowded, and expensive compared to other parts of the country. Most backpackers, use included, will tell you there are many other beaches where you won’t pay as much, are just as scenic, and with half the crowds. That all said, Phuket can be an enjoyable place and if you’re new to backpacking or simply want to see it all.

Phuket Airport

Phuket is easy to reach via the Phuket International Airport and there are plenty of flights coming in and out from the region as well as Europe. You can check for the best flight deals on which compares over 100 travel search booking engines.

Getting Around (Carefully)

Phuket is known for its inflated taxi and tuk-tuk prices for foreigners and it’s almost a tourist tax that most people, even expats end up paying. Arguing with the local drivers is difficult and if the conversation gets heated you’ll most likely be out of a ride. A good method to getting a good low price is to search around and ask a few different drivers how much a certain route would cost. Don’t be afraid to say no and move on if you feel like it’s a ripoff.

Patong Beach

A very tourist area known for its parties and debauchery. It’s not the place you want to be if you’re hoping for a quiet night out or aren’t interested in a bustling downtown during your trip. In general though, if you’re looking for low key nights, Patong Beach really isn’t for you.
