Boracay

in Asia,Philippines

boracay sunsetOne of the most popular destinations in the Philippines, Boracay is a small resort island south of the capitol Manila. Travel to the island from Manila is usually by one of the smaller local low fare carriers, which fly to a larger island right next to Boracay. Once you land at the small airport there you’ll be taken by small boat to the beautiful island of Boracay. Remember though, to get to the small transport boat you’ll have to wade in knee-to-about-waist-high water so bring along a light backpack that you can lift over your head.

Once you get to the resort, there are a number of good hostels to stay in, but during most times of the year it’s advisable to book ahead on sites like Hostelbookers. The island can get crowded with both tourists and locals alike.

Boracay Travel Suggestions

Bike Riding

There are plenty of activities to do around the island. One of our number one recommendations is to rent a bicycle on the island with one of the local vendors. The shops towards the ends of the strip have the lowest rates and you usually pay for intervals of 4 hours each. Take your bike, some water (it gets very hot), and bike your way through the island to the other side. There are some beautiful isolated beaches, small towns, and wildlife that you can access far from the beach crowds.

Jet Skiing

It’s an exhilarating feeling to jet ski out in the middle of the open ocean. It’s a short boat ride out to the main floating dock where you can get on a jet ski, which you should book at one of the local shops. The prices are reasonable for a 30 minute ride that will take place in almost any weather. There isn’t much training that takes place beforehand and you must be a strong swimmer, in case you fall off, there aren’t any floating buoys around and help is a 5 minute jet ski away. It’s a blast though and certainly a good opportunity to jet ski for less in a unique environment.

Parties On The Beach

There are plenty of these to go around so take your pick. You’ll find a good nightlife going on up and down the coast of the main strip so all you’ll have to do is walk up and down and head over to the one that looks like the biggest blast.
